Chyba was bred by Anitta Cavonius (thank you Anitta for letting me have her!). She came to our family as an 8-week-old puppy. Chyba was a sweet puppy, very attached to me and full of life. She was a bit clumsy and my grand mother told me when she first saw Chyba that "this one you don't have to take to dog shows!". Well, luckily she doesn't really know anything about dogs and I told her to just wait and see...
Chyba started her show career as soon as possible. I think she was about 5 months old when she took her first BOB as puppy. She became Cesky Puppy of the Year 1994. Chyba was very easy to train and she soon learned a lot of funny tricks. She knew how to bark on command, roll-over, go around, give both paws, sit nicely etc. I also trained her some basic obedience and later we started agility training. Chyba loved agility! She used to scream to me while we were on the track "Wof, wof, faster, faster, WHERE is the next fence???" We competed in couple of unofficial competitions with fair results.
Few times we tried her hunting skills. We participated in our local club's tracing trainings. She was very much into scenting and followed the blood marks enthusiastically. Usually Chyba always asked me about everything, but in the woods on the blood track she almost forgot I was there! Tracing is difficult to practise in a city so we had to give that up.
Dog shows were our most fun hobby. Chyba was a natural show star! She always showed like "I'm here and I'm the best!" She was very happy and had a open temperament. That's what several judges were very impressed about. Chyba did very well at shows during 1996 and became Cesky of the Year. In 1997 she was not shown much due to her first litter. The year 1998 was a big success! She attended her first show that year only 10 weeks after her second litter. It was the World Winner show and she was best bitch and became WW-98! That show had the biggest entry of Ceskies ever in Finland. Later that year she finished her International champion title. Altogether Chyba was International, Swedish, Finnish and Estonian champion, World Winner '98 and Baltic Winner '98.
When all Chyba's puppies were old enough we showed progeny groups a couple of times. Best results came in Turku INT '99 when Chyba's progeny group won Best In Show 5! In the Winner show she had a BOB progeny group.
Chyba died in March 2000 much too early. She was very keen on toys and any kind of chewie stuff and that's what got her into trouble. She found a rubber toy at my parents house by accident and before we saw it she had chewed it into pieces. I couldn't find all the pieces at that time, she had swallowed part of them. It took almost a year before they started to move from her tummy. One of the pieces got stuck in January and she was operated at the vet clinic. She healed very well and was ok for a month. Then the next piece which had been hiding in the tummy got stuck in the intestine. This time she was operated too, but she didn't seem to do so well after surgery. From ultrasound and x-rays we found out that the stiches in her intestine were leaking. She went to surgery for the third time, but there was not much hope to begin with. During the operation the vet called me and said there is nothing to do for her anymore. Chyba did not wake up again.
Chyba was one of my best friends, a truly once-in-a-lifetime dog! She understod everything I told her and was very affectionate. Chyba left nine clever and beautifull puppies behind her. Her open and happy temperament lives in her puppies too!
